Budburst was uneven but good follow-up rain gave the Hunter its best start for many years. The weather turned fine later in vintage and shiraz grapes came in very well. 

These wines have great colour and rich flavours, but have quite strong tannins. Rich berry fruit and hints of tar, earth and chocolate combine in a very complex way on the nose. Still with some lack of Hunter softness and balance, these wines are well worth drinking now or keeping for a limited  time.
